PICK up the latest issue of Viz comic, and you'll find a brilliant array of cartoon stereotypes whose defining obsessive- compulsive features emphasise potty-mouthed grotesques indulging in bouts of indiscriminate violence, rutting and a penchant for bodily fluids. Alfred Jarry, whose outrageous tale of a vulgar little man's delusions of grandeur predated absurdism, would've loved it. You can't help but suspect, too, that David Greig, who has here adapted Jarry's defining piece of snook-cocking, already does.
