In the great majority of cases their intentions are good. Many thousands of children and young people benefit from their support. They contribute the equivalent of hundreds of millions of pounds to the Scottish economy each year. Step forward Scotland's army of volunteers. It is some 1.76 million strong and the Scottish Executive wants to add to its ranks. It devised a strategy this year to encourage more adults to become volunteers.
