SCOTLAND could lose out on inward investment by US companies because of sterling's continuing rise against the plummeting dollar, a leading economist warned last night.

Professor Brian Ashcroft, policy director of Strathclyde University's respected Fraser of Allander Institute, said: "From a Scottish point of view, my biggest worry about the strength of the pound against the dollar is we may lose out on either reinvestments or investments from US companies."
