Some 200,000 people who bought extended warranty plans from Powerhouse, the former ScottishPower retailer, will be hoping for some shreds of compensation when a creditors' meeting is staged at the SECC in Glasgow on Monday.

When Powerhouse went into receivership in September 2003, ScottishPower denied any liability for plans sold when it owned the chain up until 2001, saying the real seller of the warranties had been PowerPlan, a separate company set up to process the policies, which had also gone into receivership.
