A PRIVATE secretary lived an "astonishing" life of luxury after stealing almost (pounds) 4.5m from a succession of leading City bankers, a court heard yesterday.

Joyti De-Laurey, 35, was said to have spent years betraying the trust of the bankers who employed her as a personal assistant, indulging in a prolonged shopping spree that included Cartier jewellery, expensive cars and a (pounds) 750,000 Mediterranean villa, as well as other properties.
