TORRENTIAL rain triggered floods across parts of Scotland which forced the evacuation of dozens of people from their homes and caused widespread havoc on the roads and transport network.

As residents and business owners assessed the damage to properties, forecasters said the worst of the weather was over and the heavy downpours would be replaced by showers for the rest of the week. But police warned that any more rain could cause further flooding to wet ground and urged drivers to take care on the roads.
