TWO young bottlenose whales were yesterday put down after being stranded on the southern shore of the Cromarty Firth .

The whales were spotted in the middle of the day on the shore about two miles west of Cromarty on the Black Isle. A larger male had been spotted in the harbour but managed to get back out to sea.
