Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the former head of the International Monetary Fund, said the last few months had been "a nightmare" after a New York judge last night dropped all criminal sexual assault charges against him.

New York State Supreme Court Justice Michael Obus accepted the prosecutors' request for dismissal of all charges after they said they had lost faith in the credibility of his accuser, hotel maid Nafissatou Diallo.
