THE Scottish Golf Union is to consider introducing a 36hole strokeplay qualifying competition at future Scottish Amateur Championships to avoid disadvantaging its players in their efforts to climb the world rankings.

The issue was raised yesterday by Gavin Dear - top seed at this year's event - after he exited in the fourth round, leaving him needing to win next month's European Men's Individual Championship to get into the world's top 10 and thereby avoid the first round of European Tour qualifying.
