JAMES WHITE, the new Scottish Boys' champion, is different from many players of his age in that he is in no rush either to head west to the collegiate scene in the US or to join the professional ranks.

The level-headed 17-yearold, who defeated fellow Fifer Michael Main by 4&3 in the final at West Kilbride on Saturday, instead is looking towards a golf scholarship at Stirling University and his immediate priority is to get his head down and study for his highers, so that he can meet academic as well as playing standards.
