A DARING bid to rescue a bootlenose whale that had become trapped in a Scottish loch was last night declared a success by conservationists.

Rescuers resorted to playing killer whale noises to scare the mammal from the shallow waters of Loch Linnhe, where it grew stranded after straying from its migratory route.
