Summary
I noted with interest a survey undertaken by the CBI indicated that half of employers fear they will be unable to fill jobs with suitably qualified candidates as demand for skilled staff increases during the economic recovery. Such news is especially timely given the latest market barometer from the Bank of Scotland indicating confidence growing among employers and that the jobs market is experiencing the highest demand for permanent staff in almost three years ("Optimism grows as demand for staff hits a two-year high", The Herald, May 17).
Skills development is vital to the productivity and economic development of Scotland, and it is organisations such as my own - articulately the voice of 90% of the UK's workforce on skills issues - working closely with the Scottish Government, employers, universities and colleges that are vital to ensure the delivery of a skilled workforce, securing economic recovery and meeting identified demand.See the full content of this document
