THE forthcoming inquiry by the Competition Commission into how supermarkets operate may be one of the most far-reaching investigations into a sector which many suppliers claim is abusing its power. NFU Scotland will shortly be submitting its detailed response, but it is also urging individual farmers, or anyone else who has views on this contentious issue, to send in their own evidence. The commission has indicated that it will consider requests for anonymity from those providing evidence.

Andy Robertson, chief executive of NFUS, commented: "We have fought hard to get this inquiry, so it is vital the industry uses the opportunity to raise its concerns.
