Your letters page in recent days has included a number of contributions opposing Glasgow Health Board's decision to close the Queen Mother's Hospital.

It is important to highlight the other side of medical opinion and the issues about the safety of mothers. The 14 consultant obstetricians who work at the Princess Royal Maternity Hospital wrote to the board during the consultation process to support the closure of the Queen Mother's. We did so because we felt that it cannot be overstated that maternity services need to be co-located on an acute adult hospital campus. The clinical support required for a large maternity unit simply cannot be provided at the Queen Mother's.
