The UK taxpayer stands to make a healthy profit from an insurance scheme which handles billions of pounds' worth of Royal Bank of Scotland's (RBS) toxic assets, the head of the body organising the project has said.

The UK's Asset Protection Agency (APA) - which insures some pound(s)230 billion worth of risky assets held by RBS - was set up last December.
