A whistle-blowing teacher at the centre of an alleged dumbing- down scandal at a leading Scottish secondary school yesterday denied making the claims to "seek revenge" on a department colleague.

Ian Kerr, 60, a maths teacher, claimed that the results of preliminary exams at Hazlehead Academy in Aberdeen had been exaggerated and, he claimed, when he brought the matter to the attention of his superiors he was accused of "troublemaking" and his claims ignored.
