Jamie Baker, the top seed and British junior No.3, defeated the second seed and his doubles partner, Tom Rushby, 6-3, 6-1 in the final to win the Ariel LTA National Junior 18-and-Under Championships in Nottingham yesterday. Baker is the first Scot to win the title for 30 years, and lost only 16 games in six matches.

The new champion said: "I didn't serve particularly well at the start of the match but I was playing more aggressively off the ground and that gave me the edge." The Scot, who next plays in the US Junior Open in two weeks' time, went on to win the doubles with Rushby, beating the No.2 seeds Jamie Murray and Matt Brown 7-5, 4- 6, 6-3.
