ALLY McCoist and his players have an uncluttered week. On Thursday night Rangers needn't indulge in any exercise beyond putting their feet up and crossing their fingers. None will admit this, but privately they will hope that Celtic's Europa League tie away to Atletico Madrid is as exhausting and difficult as possible, so that their energy is sapped ahead of Sunday's Old Firm game at Ibrox. Rangers will be rested and fairly confident, albeit their mood will be affected by whether or not Nikica Jelavic makes it. Despite all the ominous financial stories, despite the never-ending diet of off-field distractions, their league form is steady.
Hearts' David Obua scored against them after 16 minutes of the opening game of the season but Rangers have not conceded a league goal since. That's 524 minutes without loss against St Johnstone, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Motherwell, Aberdeen and Dundee United, despite changes being required because of injuries to Kyle Bartley, Davie Weir, Lee Wallace and Sasa Papac.
