DURING his final film, Bright Young Things, the late Sir John Mills told director Stephen Fry the secret of his long marriage. Sir John said that he and wife Mary, wed since the 1930s, viewed the relationship as if they'd just met and were conducting an illicit affair. The couple - then in their eighties - once attended a party at which they were seated separately. Sir John gave a waiter a note on which he'd written: "Do you fancy coming round to my place tonight? We could have some fun." He was perturbed to see the note being handed not to his wife, but the guest next to her: the Princess of Wales.
