Summary

THE Rev Dr Bruce K Gardner suggests that the FBI be asked to investigate the circumstances of Princess Diana's death (Letters, January 8). I find that rather surprising as the FBI does not have a very good track record in its own country; how it would manage in a country like France which is foreign to them, whose language they do not speak and without their normal contacts and informers, I cannot imagine.

FBI agents investigated the circumstances of the assassination of John F Kennedy and left such a complicated situation at the end that very few people are sure what actually happened. That assassination took place in a busy street in daylight with thousands of people around; Diana's fatal crash occurred in a tunnel, at night and with hardly any witnesses. I doubt if any investigation will resolve the situation; those who know what happened will not tell and the rest of us can only speculate.
