BRIEFING (August 22) celebrates the "anniversary of the first flight in Britain", but some will say your enthusiasm is misplaced. According to Sir Bernard Fergusson, the Dictionary of National Biography, et al, the first flight in Britain was indeed in August 1784, but it took place in Edinburgh.
