The Tenner Bet has an uncanny ability to forecast the outcome of football matches. To regular readers of this column the skill will have gone undetected for the most part. There is but one clear caveat to this sweeping statement, though: the game must have kicked off. What fresh madness is this? You might well ask.

Okay, here's an example. It took me all of five minutes to realise last weekend that Chelsea weren't going to beat Everton - the second time in recent weeks that one team which should win hasn't. The body language was all wrong, Didier Drogba looked sluggish, Frank Lampard tried to chip Tim Howard with three defenders standing on the line. In effect, nothing went right inside the requisite 90 minutes. At which point, I switched off. Seemingly, extra time was little better.
