A FEW weeks ago, this fixture was deemed as one for the diehards only. A midweek game between Clyde and East Stirlingshire? The thought was enough to leave both sets of forlorn supporters fumbling through television guides.

Yet a mini-revival at the Cumbernauld club meant fans of either side were suddenly faced with a proposition they had possibly forgotten existed - a match of significance. There is, after all, little more embarrassing than finishing bottom of the third division. Montrose, Elgin City and Forfar Athletic have all won the wooden spoon in recent years, and for much of this season it appeared as if Clyde would also take their place in the hall of shame - 12 months on from being installed as title favourites.
