THE most powerful destroyer ever built in the UK slipped into the Clyde yesterday, cheered on its way by thousands.

HMS Daring was launched by the Countess of Wessex. The ceremony at the BAE Systems shipyard in Scotstoun, Glasgow, was also attended by John Reid, defence secretary. The Type 45 destroyer is the first of at least six to be built at Scotstoun and its sister yard in Govan.
