I AM SURE that Archie White is correct in his analysis that means testing benefits does not work (Letters, February 22). But have we ever tried to hard enough to make it work?
Every year I struggle with my tax return and say to myself "Don't they know this?" Indeed, I once put the wrong figure in for my employment and was promptly told that I had got it wrong. And it seems reasonable to me to assume that if they are clever enough to work out how many people are not claiming the benefits that they are entitled to, it wouldn't be a much bigger step to identify these people and send them the money.See the full content of this document
