RALPH TOPPING, the new non-executive chairman of the Scottish Premier League, used his first appearance in front of the media yesterday to urge the Old Firm to "live in the real world" and abandon any plans to pursue a future away from Scottish football.

Both Rangers and Celtic have repeatedly reiterated their desire to leave the SPL for either an expanded English Premier League or a newlycreated European league, fearing that remaining in Scottish football would gradually strangle their ambition.
