What is one of the easiest ways for an entrepreneur to add value to his company and one that is consistently neglected? The answer, of course, is training. Recent research by the government's new Learning and Skills Council revealed businesses that invest an extra (pounds) 50 per week on training and development increase profits almost twice as quickly as those that don't.

Alistair Fenton, business development manager of training and consultancy organisation Rewards (Scotland), is a proselytiser for training and at any one time is helping 200 or so candidates achieve qualifications.
