HUNDREDS of holidaymakers have been trapped in European ski resorts after a freak snowfall cut off roads and rail links and caused airports to shut.

The huge blizzard, which hit the Alps earlier this week, brought snowdrifts to some areas, smothering the countryside and isolating resorts.
