Summary

Rangers yesterday donated tickets to the army for an entire section of Ibrox for the Champions League tie against Unirea Urziceni on Tuesday.

The Romanian side are not taking up their allocation in the traditional away section, prompting Rangers to offer the area to soldiers in honour of their service. Rangers' chief executive, Martin Bain, joined manager Walter Smith, Brigadier David Allfrey and soldiers from 51 (Scottish) Brigade to hand over the tickets, worth almost GBP50,000. The initiative is believed to be the first time a football club in the UK has donated an entire section of its ground to serving members of the armed forces.
