RETAIL and property tycoon Tom Hunter has become his banker's landlord by buying a 33.3% stake in HBOS's main London office.

However, a spokesman for HBOS subsidiary Bank of Scotland insisted yesterday that, if anyone else were to own the building, "Tom is a good man for it to be". This viewpoint is underlined by the fact that Bank of Scotland is, like Hunter and renowned property developer Nick Leslau, putting up money for its own one-third stake in the (pounds) 140m purchase of the nine-storey building at 33 Old Broad Street from its parent group HBOS. The office space is being leased back to HBOS.
