Summary
I HAVE to agree with Joe Curry's rebuttal of Andrew Heatlie's comments (Letters, June 28). In particular, I agree that Glasgow Airport's options for the European business traveller are negligible. Only Amsterdam and Copenhagen have a reasonable service, Berlin and Paris have a limited service, and there are no direct services to other major European business centres. Edinburgh, despite its smaller population, is much better in this regard.
I'm not sure it is fair to place blame on the airports for this state of affairs. It is the carriers who choose not to offer these services that deserve most criticism. British Airways has reduced its services over successive years from Glasgow to the point where the only destination offered is London and, as a result of a lack of competition on most routes, fares are high. The airline concentrates its efforts on the more lucrative transatlantic services out of the London airports. Our national flag carrier does little to serve the nation internally.See the full content of this document
