I refer to your feature of April 7 regarding the latest developments in Shirley McKie's case. I, like lots of other people, am appalled at the temerity of Strathclyde Police's chief constable in his attempt to recover court costs from Shirley. It beggars belief that he could put this woman through more torture after all this time, especially as the mistakes were made by people who appear to be untouchable.

As an ex-police officer and the father of another former police officer who is currently being pursued by the chief constable of Lothian and Borders police force in the same uncaring manner, it seems to me that there is no justice and the silence from the "justice minister", Cathy Jamieson [pictured], is deafening.
