"Devolution is not an afterthought," reads the last line of your excellent editorial ("Is this the way to avoid poll clash?", September 22). But Scotland is an afterthought to those who expect the Scottish Parliament to move the date of future elections, because, as you rightly point out, "nobody at Westminster appeared to realise that a five-year fixed term for Westminster elections would result in a clash of dates with Holyrood". The impression given from Coalition sources is that elections to the Scottish Parliament are of no importance compared to those to Westminster.
Respect has slipped off the agenda, and it is imperative that Michael Moore, the Scottish Secretary, shows some mettle, stands up for Scotland and insists it is up to Westminster to dig itself out of this hole of its own making.See the full content of this document
