A SCOTTISH university was accused of being "anti-English" after it emerged the institution was favouring candidates from local schools over those from south of the Border.

The claim was made yesterday by the headteacher of a leading private school, who said he was "alarmed" at the policy adopted by Edinburgh University of giving weighting to applicants from neighbouring schools.
