The Observer Advertising and marketing giant WPP is poised to post strong results this week, signalling the end of the worst advertising recession in recent years. Sir Martin Sorrell, chief executive of the world's third-largest advertising agency, is expected to take an optimistic tone when the group announces its results on Friday. Sorrell has been notoriously reluctant to call an end to the slump.

Sunday Telegraph The advisers to the Morgan Stanley-led consortium that has made a (pounds) 1.6bn bid for Canary wharf, have apparently privately admitted that the US investment bank may have to abandon the eight-month-old bidding battle, after being trumped by a rival offer from the Canadian power, environment, and property group Brascan.
