A British man has set a new world record by becoming the first visually impaired person to trek from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole.

Alan Lock, 31, battled howling winds, white-outs and temperatures as low as -35C, existing on a diet of dehydrated food packs and chunks of butter to complete the 600 mile trek in 39 days.
