Summary

STEVEN Whittaker has rejected a contract offer which would have made him Rangers' second-highest paid player on around pound(s)1m-a- year. The club now plan to hold him to the final year of his existing deal and let him leave as a free agent next summer after rejecting a fourth bid from Bursaspor yesterday.

One official at Bursaspor claimed yesterday that a deal had been agreed "in principle" with Whittaker and he was expected to be there when their training camp begins on July 7, although even the player's agent said those comments were premature.
