YOUR comments (December 23) on the purpose of Tony Blair's proposed Middle East conference well illustrate the absurdity of his efforts and the confusion surrounding them.

Catherine MacLeod refers to the need for "international help to establish secure borders" oblivious to the fact that Israel has never declared her borders, that Ariel Sharon is intent on extending them with the help of walls and military force. We then find that the Palestinian people need help to "regain a sense of purpose"with the editorial wittering on about transition to democracy, corruption and transparent government.
