WHILE the loss of an order for Ferguson's shipyard is disappointing, it does not justify your extremely negative correspondence regarding ministers and civil servants. It is ironic that weeks after thousands marched in Scotland to protest against the protectionism inherent in the more developed economies of the west we find people in Scotland demanding that Scottish firms be protected from cheaper competition.

As Ross Finnie pointed out, there is no evidence to suggest that the Polish yard received any illegal subsidies.
