THE Blair coterie must not be allowed to believe that just because the Daily Mirror photos may prove to be fakes the reports by Amnesty and the Red Cross can now be swept into the dustbin of history. This invasion of Iraq was intended to usher in a new, democratic era but instead the Iraqis and the world have witnessed acts of depravity from their US and British "liberators" and extreme barbarism from al Qaeda squads; such is the brave, new, democratic Iraq set in a turbulent Middle East where the Palestine-Israel conflict continues unabated.

It is quite obvious that US forces in Iraq are badly trained, poorly led and totally unable to carry out their allotted tasks in the field and in prisons. Sadly, it does not appear that our troops are beyond reproach. Is it surprising that this is happening in prisons when the US has used cooks and truck drivers to work as interrogators and have drafted in Major-General Geoffrey Miller from Guantanamo Bay Camp to overhaul the process?
