MAUREEN Moore (Letters, December 12) misrepresents me. What I actually wrote was that ventilation (to a government standard) to control smoking in bars would have "satisfied" everybody except ASH Scotland (and, by implication, a few like-minded zealots) - a somewhat different inference.

The Scottish Executive, as she is well aware, was perfectly happy with ventilation until Jack McConnell's spectacular "road to Dublin" conversion to a demented Irish-style smoking ban, which followed his flying photoopportunity visit to one chain pub in the Irish capital.
