JOHNSTON McKay supplies yet another example (Letters, August 9) of Benjamin Disraeli's wicked wit. I wonder if Mr McKay would like to note two further examples of potential dispatch-box ammunition which Mr Howard could, should the occasion arise, perhaps fire in the direction of Mr Blair.

Once, on being asked to define the difference between a misfortune and a calamity, Disraeli replied: "If, for instance, Mr Gladstone were to fall into the river, that would be a misfortune. But if anyone were to pull him out, that would be a calamity."
