If there was one major lesson from Matt Williams' first outing as Scotland coach, it was that his best players must be given every opportunity to make the required impact.

In fairness there had, in advance, seemed to be sound thinking behind the decision to hold something back. The idea was to play a structured game until Wales tired before bringing Jason White's slightly more maverick talent to the game early in the second half.
