FROM windswept crofts to Highland cottages, some of the most remote parts of Scotland have now been wired into the twenty-first century, it was announced yesterday.

Nearly 400 far-flung communities have been given access to broadband thanks to a scheme, backed by the Scottish Executive, to convert rural telephone exchanges.
