THE death of a workman who was crushed when the building he was working in collapsed could have been avoided if safety rules had been followed, a sheriff has ruled.

Erik Petersen was carrying out architectural salvage in the former Poundstretcher building in Union Street, Aberdeen, when there was a major collapse on January 21, 2002.
