Jack McConnell, the first minister, yesterday became a fan of the latest weapon in the war against antisocial behaviour - a game of football.

He took part in a kickabout with youngsters in Easterhouse, Glasgow, where sports projects funded by an offshoot of Comic Relief are being used to counter the gang problem by bringing together youngsters from different neighbourhoods at the Stepford Road sports complex.
