UK-Dutch steel group Corus has been hit by a Yuletide row after one of the most senior Dutch directors was axed by Philippe Varin, the group's French chief executive.

The departure of Peter Jongenburger, who was chairman of the management board of Corus Nederland and worked at the company for three-anda-half years, has angered workers in Holland who said the sacking was "incomprehensible".
